The Simpsons 206 Dead Putting SocietyTimes Watched: 295665Comments: 33Rating:
Bart and Todd Flanders enter a miniature golf tournament at Sir Putt-A-Lots. However, Homer and Ned Flanders bet that the father of the boy who does not win mows the neighbor's lawn in their wife's Sunday dress.
the scene where the simpsons gather around the kitchen table to mock the piss out of their neighbour's sentimentality is one of the foundation stones for their reputation as a subversive element in american society. Ned's sudden religious flanderization is savagely brutalized by these barbaric simpsons. Interestingly in the same episode that we see Ned become religious we also see him become an unleashed angry beast: "Mercy is for the weak, Todd!" Was there ever a more unFlanders Flanders quote?
But Ned is nowhere close to the jerkass Homer is here. "Now start hating!" he instructs his son. Makes a for a good observation on parents competing with each other through their children's sports.
But its Lisa who gets to really define herself in this episode. In earlier episodes all she got were one-liners of fact and insight that only hinted at her genius. In this episode the little eight-year old is an old-hand of the library, master of applied geometry, and is versed in both Buddhism and Taoism. And nobody seems to notice! And that makes Lisa sad! Pure gold!
But what really takes the cake is when Bart debunks her one-hand clapping riddle.
Touche, Bart. Now that's real genius.
how come when homer n ned are arguing abt bart winning, homer says that if bart wins, ned has to mow his lawn, and in return, ned says that if bart wins, homer has to mow his lawn?
