The Simpsons 922 Trash of the TitansTimes Watched: 214234Comments: 18Rating:
When his crude insults persuade the local garbage men to terminate his trash pick-up service, Homer enters the race for sanitation commissioner, banking on the laziness of his fellow towns- people as the key to victory.
"Truly. Humanity's problems all go back to the fact we can't express our feelings."
I certainly can. You can do whatever you think you can do.
"Acknowledging anything uncomfortable unbalances us and we refuse to do so. Why? Because we know that if we become weak, if our sadness overwhelms us,
nobody will help us."
Not true. I have met many helpful good people in my life who have helped me in my most vulnerable, painful moments. This is just your perspective and not a fact.
The Simpsons makes excellent social commentary.
Certainly this episode is funny, but it most certainly has a vitally important point to make as well.
Watching this episode makes me ask the question why.
Why do we have such a hard time facing our problems?
I think I know. Because we have such a hard time expressing our feelings.
We operate on a state of minimal awareness.
Acknowledging anything uncomfortable unbalances us and we refuse to do so.
Why? Because we know that if we become weak, if our sadness overwhelms us, nobody will help us.
On the Long March of Humanity, those who cannot keep up, will be left behind.
Best to ignore, then to acknowledge and be ostracized...
...but...then there's Lisa...
Finally, the entire problem in this episode stems from Homer's inability to admit he's wrong.
Why is that? Because Homer's self-confidence is so fragile, if he acknowledges his flaws, he will collapse into a state of absolute misery, and who will help him?
Truly. Humanity's problems all go back to the fact we can't express our feelings.
