I don't know whether you know this but when a boat carrying Jewish settlers bound for "Israel" came under attack by a British naval vessel there was a huge uprising against it. And now you've gone and done the same thing to an innocent boat carrying supplies to people who have been imprisoned in their own land. And what is this rubbish coming from Israel in their report of the incident claiming the commando's fought with bravery and did the right thing? Frankly that is total bullshit. Some of the "laughs" were cheap and overused, though other jokes were very clever in this episode.
I was thinking while watching this episode that most people wouldn't understand some of the humor, unless they were Israeli. Understand that a significant amount of the people who write US sitcoms are Jewish and have probably been to Israel at some point in their life. I'm sure it was a really challenge for the writers to try and separate "Jewish culture" from "Israeli culture".
I think this episode was very befitting, since many Christians come to Israel this time of year, specifically during the Passover/Easter holiday.
Anyone who relies on the Simpsons show to get their information about other cultures and nations is a sad case.

I personally like some parts of the episode, the tour guide's voice did make me want to punch him, but the stereo-types of these religious groups are reasonably funny, especially since homers ignorance seems to perpetuate the naive, lazy, interfering and dare i say stupid stereo-type that the world sees Americans as, unfair? possibly but every country has there stereotypes, yes! even middle America!
Overall i'd give it 5/10! Ooooh... a little to generous perhaps. Hmmm...

I grew up on classic Simpsons and I was annoyed at the "declining quality" for a while but I think the humour is just different these days. Before, the storylines were more imaginative and the jokes were hilariously random and sometimes brilliantly related to popular culture. Now as far as I can see, the jokes aren't as clever and the storylines are constantly getting more topical.
I do wonder what it would be like to watch the new episodes with a fresh perspective.

The jokes were hardly related, and even when they were funny (take the instance bart walks into the crowd, and they all start praying, which is kind of funny and kind of offensive) it just gets blown five seconds over by a bad punchline (Karate?.. what? why is that girl with the secret police?).
The characters were way overdone, they used to have a personality, these are.. nicktoons characters? And why did the tour guide have the most screen time of all the characters? It's just like making star wars 1 all about jar-jar, it's just annoying.
It had mass-media views, instead of that edgy Simpsons angle they always use on subjects like these.
And the entire thing, sterile, no mocking themselves, just joke-joke-joke-punchline! allright, next act.
Just, pause it, and go watch another show for now,
they'll have something good next time, I'm sure of it.

Everything else was pure and utter torture especially the tour guide's voice, I have no idea what he was saying 90% of time and he was just annoying as hell to listen...
This is the first episode of Simpsons I utterly despise...
