We can presume this episode was set in Northern Ireland rather than the Republic or Ireland. Red double Decker buses are British rather than Irish, the Police in this were "police" rather than "garde", and they visited Giants Causeway which is also in the UK rather than Ireland. Although the Irish smoking laws to forbid drinking in pubs, bars restaurants etc, that can just as well be northern Ireland too since smoking in all public places is prohibited in the UK. Quite obviously the writers didn't do there research as I very much doubt this was intended to be set in the UK's part of Ireland.

Admin - yozface11's question was are there any other episodes that were broadcasted on the British satellite tv channel "Sky 1" which was the broadcaster of this episode (as opposed to fox or who ever broadcasts in america), and in answer to the question I havent seen any, but with almost 500 episodes I cant be sure.

Oh ya It was kinda cool that Glen Hansard was in it but the "Once" joke was a bit misguided ... but it was delivered by Hansard so I cant complain

My rule when making fun of another nation is basic, its ok as long as its funny.
I'm Irish and I was lookig forward to seeing this episode because I was eager to see how they satirized Ireland, but ... thats nothing like Ireland at all... what the hell is that joke about "German krusty" the irish arent known for using dubbed versions of American tv especially in German! .. why the hell would we! We're IRISH ... and The red busses is an english thing ... I could complain more but I couldnt be arsed! (Irish expression ... we are an eloquent lot)

Mhhh. There have been better episodes in this season. Not that I don't like clichés about other countries - since the Simpsons are the first to mock about the U.S. when appropriate, that shouldn't bother people from Europe - it's just that most of the jokes are quite mediocre and some of them are just insipid. Whole episode didn't really go into a distinct direction and on some occasions went quite Family-Guy-ish (Smashing the whirlpool, the Potatoe-judge). And making fun of other cultures should always have (and on the Simpsons usually has had) some portions of sympathy for or understanding of it. The whole episode didn't portray Ireland in a very clever, satirical way but seems more like the regular American guy making fun of the Ireland he sees on Hallmark-movies or CNN economy news-broadcasts. And I don't now why, but the German backpackers in an earlier episode were quite more fitting as a mock on Germans than a simple bashing of their language. Even the Oktoberfest guys asking "What have we Germans done to deserve this?" were quite a fierce joke to make, yet still very funny. But whenever the joke aims at something people couldn't help (e.g. their allegedly oh so ugly language - it actually doesn't really sound like that and everybody somehow knows), it's becoming a bit mean and pointless. Like a lousy stand-up comedian fishing for cheap laughs. Quite a long note to that episode, but that's exactly the direction, this great show should not move into. Some funny parts were the Irish IT companies' names and the nice hint at the Irish syntax (don't know why, but this joke worked in contrary to the German language joke). Anyway. Have fun with the Simpsons! :)

Stop posting those chain-letters, everybody knows they're fake. And to the one about the 13 year-old daughter, 3 things are wrong about that,

1. I sleep on a couch

2. I'm staying up all night

3. not to me, but what if someone who lives alone reads it?! IT'S ALL BOLOGNA!!!
